The European Heating Industry (EHI) and the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), representing the heating and cooling sectors, are hosting a:
Workshop on carbon pricing
The EU Emission Trading System (ETS) and the Energy Taxation Directive
Thursday 30 January 2020
09:30 – 11:30
This workshop will give you the opportunity to hear the viewpoints of speakers from various industry sectors, as well as of NGOs, on carbon pricing. The focus will be on the potential extension of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to the buildings sector and the review of the Energy Taxation Directive.
The speakers will bring perspectives on sectors currently covered by the EU ETS or that may be covered in the future (buildings, transport), as well as on the consequences of carbon pricing for heating and cooling. Each intervention will be followed by a Q&A session.
You may join the workshop via web-streaming by following the enclosed connection detials.
In July 2019, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pledged to propose an expanded ETS that would include transport and construction. The communication on the European Green Deal confirms that the Commission will launch work to explore this possibility, as part of broader efforts to ensure that the relative prices of different energy sources provide the right signals for energy efficiency. In parallel, the Commission will propose a revision to the Energy Taxation Directive in June 2021.
